Game Ticket Prices 2005-2006
Meeting Date: February 16th, 2005
Time: 7:00 pm
Location: Room 404
Overview - Bill Hollenbeck reviewed all the upcoming needs of the program and mentioned specific items such as running ropes, warm-up jackets, digital video camera, recording equipment, head phones, dummies, etc.
Spaghetti Dinner - Bill stated that the dinner will be held during the Elementary School Carnival on April 22 from 5-8pm. The cost of the dinner is $7 per person with pre-school youngsters paying at the door. Chefs Rick Haynes and Karl Malin will be heading up the preparation of the food with the assistance of students from the CTC Culinary Arts Program. It is required by the school that a kitchen employee be present at $15 per hour. Linda Crouch will fill that need. Bill is having the Visual Imaging students at the CTC produce the flyers and pre-sale tickets. Marc Kemp has volunteered to head this overall effort with help from Bill.
“Pigskin Classic” Golf Outing - Bill stated that the outing has been reserved for May 22 on the King’s Challenge course at Sugar Loaf. The cost per golfer is $30 inclusive of cart, and the cost of the prime rib dinner per golfer is $20. We intend to ask $80 per golfer making a $30 profit on each. Joe Baker stated that the hole sponsors ($125) are a great source of income and recommends we emphasize this in our effort. Denny Brown said that he would pursue getting signs made with a company he knows in Traverse City. Diane Kemp suggested we should look at selling “mulligans’ as another source of income. Bill reviewed other sources of income such as “hit the green contest” and 50/50 drawing. Diane Kemp, Denny Brown, will head the effort on this project.
Program Ads - Marc Kemp stated that he would like to head this project.
Opening Day Tailgate Party - Bill mentioned that Rick Haynes said he would like to do a function of some sort to help us in our fundraising initiative. A building use form for the date of the opening game, August 26, has been completed. Bill will initially work with Rick on setting up this event. Rick’s initial idea was a ‘fish boil’ but we’ll wait to see what develops.
Additional Comments – Cathy Buchan suggested we look at doing a “football calendar” complete with pictures of players. She will further investigate the possibility of doing this. Bill showed a button that simply indicated A+ referencing an ‘always positive’ attitude. This met with favorable response and it was suggested we have a number made for distribution next year. Marc Kemp asked if it was possible for us to have our own Football Booster Organization. This met with much satisfaction and Bill said he would investigate. In response to this Bill met with the Athletic Director and Bryan Burns stated that there is no problem with us having our own organization. There should also be no problem with selling items at the game site.

Overview – Bill Hollenbeck shared the numbers of students who have signed up for football for the 2005 season: 7th grade - 26 total (11 from Leland), 8th grade - 17 total (2 from Leland), J.V. 42 total (12 from Leland), Varsity 26 total (9 from Leland). Glen Lake is very excited to share the program with Leland. Bill met with Leland players and parents and found a receptive group excited to co-op with our team. With the increase in numbers, we need to do a great job in our fundraising efforts to outfit all of the players. Team items needed: jackets, phones, uniforms, video camera, clinics, etc.
Spaghetti Dinner – Bill has all of the flyers and tickets printed for the dinner. He will hand them out to players after “Spring Break”. We will be inviting the Leland families to join us for the dinner. Marc Kemp will be contacting players for work duty for the dinner. They will help with serving, assisting families, directing people from the carnival to the dinner, and clean up. Football players should wear jerseys that evening.
“Pigskin Classic” Ninth Annual Golf Outing – Diane & Marc Kemp met with the Bakers & received the information on the golf outing to be held at King’s Challenge on Sunday, May 22nd. They presented the registration flyers which will be mailed at the end of the month to the list of players from last year. We need everyone to help get hole sponsors ($125), asking people and businesses they know. We also need prizes and 72 players, or 18 foursomes. This is a fun event with lots of prizes and a great prime rib and fish dinner included in the $80 per person cost. Call or email Diane Kemp with sponsors, players, prizes, or to help out in any way. Following were the items of discussion:
1. The Glen Lake Football Boosters have opened a checking account at Honor Bank. This will facilitate timely payment to vendors. All expenditures will be approved by committee.
2. The football program is out and sold at all home varsity games. $7,000 revenue has been collected from advertising, about $5,500 is profit.
3. Clothing has been purchased to sell at home games and on the website.
4. Website - www.glenlakefootball.com now has the Laker Store to purchase items. There is also a place to sign up for the Meijer Community Rewards program. We will get a portion of each person's grocery purchases. Players bios and photos are now on the website, as well as sponsors for the golf tournament. There is an alumni button and sign-in page and soon there will be links to advertisers websites. Check it out!
5. The Calendar will be produced with the help of Cathy Buchan, photographer, and VIT/CTC and available for sale in October. There will be more photos this year so more students will be featured on each page. Price to be determined.
6. New banner can be seen at the Booster tent at home games.
7. Ideas for other products for sale include wristbands, license plates, blankets, seat cushions, car stickers, pens and sponge footballs. Hopefully more of a kids clothing line in the future.
8. Training staff now has collared shirts for games.
9. A weight lifting class in school curriculum would help with safety issues in games. Kids are at risk when all opposing teams have this in their curriculum. This class would also have appeal to all students, whether athletes or not, and promote a healthy lifestyle. There will be a meeting to discuss this with all interested parents on Monday, September 26th at 7:00 pm in Room 404 at Glen Lake High School. Come share the facts!
